Painting, drawing, sculpture
Wolfgang Leber (b. 1936), one of the grand seigneurs of Berlin painting, presents around 40 works that reveal the inner dynamics and developmental trajectories of his oeuvre. Viewed as a whole, his visual language – guided by the ‘beautiful, enigmatic resonance’ (Ingeborg Ruthe) – proves to be deeply resonant.
Marlene Gaßmann (born 1949) is exhibiting works on paper in the gallery’s private viewing room. Her works, too, draw their distinctive character from the tradition of Picasso and Matisse, Heldt and Gilles. Whilst Leber’s art combines elegance and melancholy, Gaßmann’s works harmonise a delicacy of colour with a certain sharpness.
W. Leber and M. Gaßmann have exhibited together on several occasions. The two have been a couple since 1975.
