Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg is to have an Eva Mamlok Square. Blücherplatz is to be officially renamed. The Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg District Assembly approved the renaming in June 2025 to honour Eva Mamlok and her anti-fascist resistance alongside a network of Jewish women, and to raise the profile of women in history.

The event will feature contributions from the District Office, the ZLB, the Eva Mamlok Square Initiative (UpStadt e.V. / GLOX) and the research initiative on the Eva Mamlok group, moderated by Nora Hogrefe (Head of the Coordination Office for Historical Street Markings at the Aktives Museum).

Eva Mamlok (1918–1944) was a Kreuzberg resistance fighter against National Socialism. She was already active against Nazi fascism as a teenager. According to an eyewitness, Eva Mamlok, aged just under 14, wrote ‘Down with Hitler!’ in white paint on the roof of the Tietz department store at Hallesches Tor. She was briefly detained as a result. In 1934, when she and others laid flowers on the graves of Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht, she was arrested and imprisoned for five months in the Moringen women’s concentration camp (Lower Saxony).

From 1940, as a Jewish woman, she was forced to perform hard labour in a factory in Kreuzberg. Nevertheless, she remained active alongside other Jewish anti-fascist women, for example by distributing leaflets and lending out books by banned authors. When the network was exposed in 1941, she was arrested, convicted and deported to the Riga ghetto in 1942. Even there, she remained defiant despite the extremely harsh living conditions. She was involved in organising a camera for local resistance groups to document Nazi crimes. In 1944, Eva Mamlok was taken to the Stutthof concentration and extermination camp. She died there at the age of just 26.
