Carrie Mae Weems . Stelios Kallinikou . Susanne Kriemann

*The Heart of the Matter* is the first comprehensive retrospective of the American artist Carrie Mae Weems in Berlin. Featuring more than 100 photographs and videos spanning over four decades, the exhibition offers a deep insight into a body of work that combines personal experiences with social and historical issues, and turns its gaze towards stories, people and places that are often overlooked in historical narratives.

Running in parallel is the double exhibition featuring the two winners of the After Nature Prize 26: Stelios Kallinikou’s *Cliffs Among Dreams* and Susanne Kriemann’s *In the Fever of the Sun, Butterflies Flutter in the Stomach*, which take us to places where the past continues to exert its influence in the present: in military-controlled areas, contaminated landscapes and the earth itself. The works make it possible to experience conditions that are not immediately accessible to the senses, and explore the role of the photographic image when that which is to be shown eludes visibility.

  • The programme is complemented by the eleventh Artistic Intervention 2026 by the internationally renowned artist Ayşe Erkmen at Café C/O Berlin x Bark Berlin.
