The KungerKiezTheater is kicking off the new year with a brand-new series of events. Under the title ‘Ein Mann, ein Stück! – Frankes Lese-Theater’ (One Man, One Play! – Franke's Reading Theatre), actor, director, screenwriter and playwright Holger Franke will be presenting the audience with a dramatic treasure or two, reading and performing them all by himself and with total commitment, starting in January 2026.

The series kicks off with Austrian author Jura Soyfer, who died of typhus in Buchenwald concentration camp in 1939. ‘Der Weltuntergang oder Die Welt steht auf kein´ Fall mehr lang’ (The End of the World or The World Will Definitely Not Last Much Longer) is Soyfer's first play and premiered in 1936. It depicts humanity on the brink of apocalypse.

A comet named Konrad is hurtling towards Earth. It is supposed to free the ‘sick’ Earth from humanity in the wake of the sun and the other planets. How do people deal with the impending doom? We see a scholar, a civil servant, a diplomat, a suicide, an old maid and her parrot, American millionaires and even a ‘leader’... It is topical.

A play for us, here and now.

Holger Franke, born in 1942, co-founded the legendary Rote Grütze theatre and won the German Screenplay Award together with Dany Levy (‘Alles auf Zucker’). He has long been known to Treptow audiences as the ‘neighbourhood reader’. At the end of January, his reading series ‘Auf Wiederlesen’ (See you again), in which he has been bringing forgotten authors and works back into the limelight for years, will celebrate its 50th anniversary (celebrated on 30 January 2025). At the KungerKiezTheater, he is active on stage as an author and director, but also as an actor.
