For their presentation at KINDL, NEOZOON are developing an entirely new work: ‘together’ examines the male-dominated narrative of humanity and questions the progress of civilisation – from the shift to a settled way of life, through the acquisition of land, to its defence.
Was the emergence of property, hierarchies and patriarchal structures a historical necessity, or is it based on a Eurocentric narrative? NEOZOON weave together historical film footage and other found footage from YouTube channels into a rhythmic, dynamic montage that deliberately separates the visual and audio layers. The collaged material feels both familiar and unsettling at the same time.
My land, my property, my border – whilst the film reveals the bitter abysses of coexistence in an ironic and humorous way, it simultaneously explores alternative visions of the future. ‘Together we could help each other.’ Wouldn’t we be happier then?
