Special Guest: Ganavya

With a program of new commissioned works premiering at the Pierre Boulez Saal, South African composer and pianist Nduduzo Makhathini poses a fundamental question: How does music become something sacred?

While Western church music is naturally understood in this way, the artist explains that other types of music often lack the appropriate means of expression to articulate their connection to the sacred—especially when it comes to traditions of the Global South.

Together with two exceptional singers, Makhathini explores the sacred power of his music and invites the audience to experience spiritual sounds from different worlds.
