Online lecture on the work of the Exile Museum Berlin in the field of tension between history and the present
The emerging Exile Museum sees itself not only as a place for historical narrative, but also as a workshop for new forms of educational work. The topic of exile offers the opportunity – especially for younger children – to engage with Nazi history, focusing on survival in exile.
Themes such as exclusion, loss, arrival, and building a new life in exile invite us to understand the transcendent challenges faced by people who have to flee their homeland. Thus, through understanding the past, the present can be reflected.
The online lecture provides insight into the Exile Museum's previous educational approaches. Previous workshop formats will be presented, as well as the new workshop series, which, for the first time, is specifically aimed at younger children and uses creative and associative approaches.
This also brings the processual nature of the project into focus: exile as a topic that is not closed, but rather becomes understandable through constant exchange and collaborative work.
Learn about the Exile Museum's educational and outreach work – and join in the discussion to discuss how history and the present can remain in dialogue.
