Art & Dance Junior Company Art & Dance, Lörrach, Baden-Württemberg

The dance piece "M.y Y.ear O.f S.tress A.nd R.ealisation," inspired by Ottessa Moshfegh's novel "My Year of Rest and Relaxation," addresses the effects of external influences on the body, mind, and social structures.

The young dancers of the Junior Company at the Art & Dance Lörrach dance school, all experienced in competition, move through choreographically designed spaces and respond physically to pressure, expectations, and the constant demand for performance. Their movements reflect the tension between external influences and internal processing—characterized by discipline, doubt, and the desire for self-determination.

The choreography was created in close collaboration with the dancers and developed through an open, collaborative rehearsal process. Every movement carries personal elements, every scene reflects individual experiences.

As the piece progresses, it becomes clear how profound change can be when young people begin to question the supposedly normal. Dance becomes a language that connects exhaustion, rebellion, and liberation. Synchronicity symbolizes community and support, while solos and duets express personal truths. Small encounters reveal friction, convergence, and the courage to set boundaries.

"M.y Y.ear O.f S.tress A.nd R.ealisation" is a choreographic statement about mental overload, social conformity, and the quiet power of self-empowerment—danced by young women seeking and asserting their own voice within the system.
