The Hospital Church in Wuhlgarten opens its event season on 15 March 2025 with My Life in Colours.

The artist Irene Revri-Thiele takes visitors on a colourful journey through distant lands.

Her works show the vastness of the desert, the unique rock formations of Yemen and the symbolic date palm of Egypt. In her series ‘Pipel Tree’ she combines the spiritual significance of India's trees with abstract colour compositions.

Irene Revri-Thiele, born in the Black Forest, lived and worked in Yemen for ten years, in Egypt for thirteen years, and in India and Berlin at regular intervals. Her travels in Iran, Syria, Jordan, Cameroon and Morocco have had a lasting influence on her artistic work.

The colours, smells, music and traditions of these countries are reflected in her works. She interprets the ancient technique of encaustic painting, which was used in ancient Egyptian art for mummy portraits, in a new way.

She works on hand-made paper from Japan and India, applying a mixture of wood stain and hot wax with a brush – a technique that allows her to play creatively with colours and structures. Her vibrantly coloured batiks and collages preserve memories of cultures and landscapes that are often threatened by conflicts today.
