The reality of motherhood rarely matches what culture and language portray. This ideal mother—selflessly caring, infinitely patient, and, on top of that, happy—simply does not exist.

Instead, motherhood becomes a breaking point for society: when mothers are still needed as unconditional caregivers, but cannot be spared as workers. When the work of motherhood remains invisible, when it costs not only one’s last shirt but also one’s pension. But at the very latest when a new generation of women decides against becoming mothers.

"#Motherfuckinghood" is a collage about the experiences of motherhood. An evening about work and caregiving, feminism and sons, about motherhood and art.

Ensemble member Claude De Demo initiated the project and proposed it to director Jorinde Dröse. Dröse has directed at venues including the Thalia Theater, Maxim Gorki Theater, Schauspiel Frankfurt, and Staatstheater Hannover. She has also been working as a mother since 2009.

Please note: One scene addresses violence during childbirth through language and performance.

Due to its content and volume, this production is not suitable for toddlers and children.
