The latest album was named ‘Download of the Month’ by the renowned US magazine DownBeat and impressively blends jazz, personal stories and social commentary. Transparent is a musical family portrait that explores the experiences of parents of transgender children. It began with in-depth discussions with affected families, resulting in a moving work about identity, change, solidarity and empathy. In the face of increasing restrictions on the rights of transgender people (not only) in the USA, Herzig uses her music to champion openness, dialogue and humanity.

Monika Herzig is originally from Germany and has lived in the USA since the late 1980s. After completing her studies, she obtained her doctorate at Indiana University, where she taught for three decades. Today, she is Professor of Artistic Research and Vice-Rector at the Jam Music Lab University in Vienna. As an author, she has published books on David Baker and Chick Corea, as well as the anthology *Jazz and Gender*. She also hosts the international radio programme and podcast *Talking Jazz*.

As a bandleader and pianist, Herzig has performed at renowned festivals and in jazz clubs across Europe, Asia and the USA. Her projects have received numerous awards; in particular, the band ‘Sheroes’ – featuring some of today’s most prominent female jazz musicians – has garnered international acclaim and has been highlighted by, amongst others, National Public Radio in the USA and DownBeat Magazine.
