From the West End to a global phenomenon!
MAMMA MIA! is Judy Craymer’s brilliant interpretation of the timeless ABBA songs in the form of a lighthearted and funny story about a mother, a daughter, and three potential fathers on an idyllic Greek island.
Performances in Germany and Austria are celebrating more than 25 years of MAMMA MIA! since its premiere in London in April 1999.
And to this day, MAMMA MIA! remains the third-longest-running musical in London’s West End, with over 11 million attendees. MAMMA MIA! has been seen by more than 70 million people across 50 productions and in 16 different languages. In 2011, MAMMA MIA! became the first musical from the Western Hemisphere to be performed in Mandarin in the People’s Republic of China. MAMMA MIA! went on to become the eighth-longest-running show in Broadway history, where it ran for a record-breaking 14 years.
Since its premiere in London’s West End, the world’s most spectacular and entertaining musical has been given new life through two highly successful film adaptations. MAMMA MIA!, the 2008 film produced by Judy Craymer, became the most successful musical film of all time upon its release, and the second film, MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN from 2018, is the most successful live-action musical film sequel of all time.
The music and lyrics for MAMMA MIA! were written by Benny Andersson [&] Björn Ulvaeus. The screenplay was written by Catherine Johnson, directed by Phyllida Lloyd, and choreographed by Anthony Van Laast.[nbsp]
The production was conceived by Mark Thompson, the lighting design by Howard Harrison, the sound design by Andrew Bruce [&] Bobby Aitken, and the musical direction, additional material, and arrangements by Martin Koch.
The MAMMA MIA! International Tour is produced by Judy Craymer, Richard East [&] Björn Ulvaeus for Littlestar in collaboration with Universal and NGM.
