A Walk Through the Castle Gardens with Alfruna, the Herbalist

On Open Monument Day, herbalist Alfruna takes her guests on a tour of the castle gardens and offers them a glimpse into the plant life of the 15th and 16th centuries.

Myths, tales, and legends about flowers, herbs, the wild forest, and those who knew them bring this magical world and era to life. Alfruna also has plenty of helpful tips that are still relevant today!

Not only was there a herb for every ailment, but they also possessed an inherent magic: flowers and herbs protected against misfortune, cast spells or lifted curses, kindled bonds of love, helped witches take flight, and continue to heal illnesses to this day. Nature came alive in the battle between good and evil. The herbalist knew these secrets and thus fell into disrepute as a witch. A fine line between healing and magic.
