He was the terror of childhood – now he’s back: Struwwelpeter, the unruly child, right in the midst of the digital age.

What does a child need to be seen? The production translates Heinrich Hoffmann’s collection of ballads into a visual and poetic tableau: a loop of images, inspired by the original illustrations, fragments of memory – parents’ voices and childhood images – set against the backdrop of a classroom, a laboratory and a child’s imagination.

The adaptation takes a tender approach to the sometimes tragic characters ‘Zappelphilipp’, ‘Hans guck in die Luft’ and ‘Suppenkasper’, expressing their inner conflicts through original texts and songs.
