From Saturday morning to Sunday evening, workshops, libraries, studios and neighbourhood centres will demonstrate how repairing, swapping and reusing work. Anyone interested can try out practically everything for themselves.
The LOOPTOPIA kick-off event will get things underway as early as Friday at MOKKA*MILCH. From 2.30 pm, solution-oriented expert discussion will meet local neighbourhood culture: experts will discuss how the circular economy can be pragmatically advanced in Berlin.
Alongside three parallel themed workshops, there will be a free jeans repair station.
From 8.00 pm, the panels will make way for the after-party: Berlin will celebrate the start of the festival with a club night featuring local house collectives, art exhibitions and wine tasting.
The kick-off sets the tone for the entire LOOPTOPIA weekend:
The programme takes shape wherever people go about their daily lives: in the Repair Café round the corner, as well as in neighbourhood centres or the library. Anyone wishing to take part can find out what’s happening in their own neighbourhood on the online map.
From an abstract concept to an urban solution
Current figures show that there is a need for action here: 83 per cent of Germans say they feel poorly informed or only adequately informed about the circular economy (IFAT Circularity Monitor/YouGov, 2025).
LOOPTOPIA is changing that: with its city-wide programme, the festival uses ‘R’ strategies – such as repair, reuse and recycling – to demonstrate concrete solutions to resource waste and mountains of urban rubbish, whilst allowing people to experience their own sense of self-efficacy first-hand.
The organisers, the partners, the aim
Behind LOOPTOPIA is the non-profit association Circular Berlin, funded by the Stiftung Naturschutz Berlin and supported by Decathlon and Startup Berlin.
