Conversations, texts and thoughts on the Brotfabrik stage

"Do single mothers take cocaine?" asked the jurors at the 2023 Ingeborg Bachmann Competition in Klagenfurt, after Jacinta Nandi, at Mithu Sanyal's invitation, had read her rousing text "If I Had a Time Machine."

Jacinta herself posed the other question right at the beginning of her reading. It was: "What's it like with childcare in the literary world?"

The answer to both questions can be found in Jacinta's self-described "first real novel."
"Single Mom Supper Club" tells the story of a handful of mothers in Berlin and is as nasty, poignant, outrageously funny, and sad as only Jacinta Nandi can write.

Radioeins columnist Lea Streisand and Jacinta Nandi have been friends and fellow reading artists for half their lives. Since both are mothers who make a living from writing and live on opposite sides of Berlin, they meet far too rarely these days.
The last time was at the book launch of Single Mom Supper Club, where Lea misbehaved in three ways.
