by Yasmina Reza

Serge bought a painting for a considerable sum: white stripes on a white background. In this image the controversy arises between three friends, in the course of which their lives and their relationships change fundamentally.

Serge is enthusiastic about the painting, Marc fights it at the most violent, and Yvan, because he does not want to spoil it with any of the others, has no position.

The work of art serves as a catalyst, with the help of which Yasmina Reza puts the three men, their feelings, their condition, their friendship, even their entire past existence to the test in a psychologically finely detailed manner - a comedic comedy about the half-life of friendships for a furioses actor trio.

"Laughter protects, defuses, relieves, saves, has a sense of humor in the sublime meaning of the word, not only laughing at jokes, but laughing at yourself, without taboo, and always being shaken by laughter - that is an enviable gift, whoever has it, is blessed by fate or gods, laughter restores confidence in ourselves, it raises us above the situation, the drama of 'art' is not that Serge but if you can laugh with a friend, then you can have all sorts of differences with him.

You can even think black-and-white, to a certain extent, if you have these differences because friendship is beyond opinions, and if you can not laugh anymore, the opinion wins the upper hand, and there is nothing left beyond it. " Yasmina Reza

"ART" BY YASMINA REZA

Serge has bought a painting for a considerable sum: white stripes on a white background. This painting sparks an argument between three friends, in the course of which their lives and relationships change fundamentally. Serge is enthusiastic about the painting, Marc vehemently opposes it, and Yvan, not wanting to fall out with either of the others, remains neutral. The artwork serves as a catalyst, with the help of which Yasmina Reza psychologically and subtly examines the three men, their feelings, their state of mind, their friendship, indeed their entire existence to date – an eloquent comedy about the half-life of friendships for a furious trio of actors.

"Laughter protects, defuses, relieves, saves. Having a sense of humor, in the sublime sense of the word, meaning not only laughing at jokes, but being able to laugh at oneself, without taboos, and being shaken by laughter at any time – that is an enviable gift. Those who have it are blessed by fate or by the gods. Laughter restores our confidence in ourselves; it elevates us above the situation. The drama of "Art" is not that Serge buys the white painting, but that you can no longer laugh with him. If you can laugh with a friend, then you can have all kinds of differences with them. You can even think in black and white, to a certain extent, if you can laugh about these differences, because friendship is based on more than opinions. When you can no longer laugh, opinion gains the upper hand and there is nothing beyond it." (Yasmina Reza) •
