At the invitation of the artist Anta Recke, the actor Komi Mizrajim Togbonou performs Julian Warner’s piece *Der Soldat* (The Soldier), exploring the parallels between war and cultural production.

Together with Julian Warner, Anta Recke adapted Anna-Sophia Mahler’s 2017 production of Josef Bierbichler’s novel *Mittelreich* by casting Black actors and actresses in all the roles originally played by white people. In response to the controversial debates sparked by this gesture, Warner cast himself in his performance *Der Soldat* (2025) as a Black “cultural soldier”. In doing so, he links his own critique of the cultural establishment with the thinking of the psychoanalyst and philosopher Frantz Fanon.
Komi Mizrajim Togbonou was actually due to be cast in *Mittelreich* in 2017, but was unable to make the timing work. As part of *Spätschicht*, he is now retroactively joining the project: he re-enacts Julian Warner’s performance and, together with Recke, creates a new version of the cultural-revolutionary narrative.
