With Yana Shliabanska, Javier Areal Vélez
To kick off the series on 26 October, Yana Shliabanska and Javier Areal Vélez invite you to a very special sound experience at the Grüner Salon.
Developed and produced by Sebastian Dürer, Lina Martin-Chan (DAAD’s Berlin Artists’ Programme), Les Vynogradov and Albert Saprykin (Kyiv Contemporary Music Days).
Yana Shliabanska is a composer and sound artist. She writes chamber and orchestral music, interactive sound installations, music for theatre and performances, and electroacoustic music. Her works have been performed or presented in Ukraine, Austria, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain and the USA. She studied composition at the National Music Academy in Kyiv.
Javier Areal Vélez worked for many years as a cultural manager, founded the RUIDO series for experimental music – which he still oversees – and coordinated the Centro de Arte Sonoro/Sound Art Centre – CASo. As a musician, his speciality was the unconventional use of the electric guitar. In his current artistic work, however, he leaves structural control to autonomous robots. In this context, the human becomes part of a biomechanical structure – not as the bearer of a specific form of expression, but as a mediator between different forces.
