More Than Just a Concert
IRRLICHTER is interwoven with Rio Reiser’s own words that go far beyond the songs, featuring blocks of thoughts and fragments of ideas that reveal the person behind the artist and make the program so unique.
It is not a Rio Reiser cover show; it is a tribute to the exceptional artist and a deep bow to a man who was, in many ways, truly extraordinary—even in his moments of turmoil.
Together with his wonderful fellow actress Dana Golombek von Senden and the gifted musician and singer Kai Dannowski, Frank Leo Schröder does more than simply revive Rio Reiser’s favorite songs: carried by Rio’s songs, the stage production brings together his entire way of thinking and feeling.
It has now been thirty years since this wonderful person and artist died far too young on August 20, 1996. That, along with the enthusiastic response from the audience at every concert of the first tour, is reason enough to carry on Rio Reiser’s legacy.
IRRLICHTER is intense, emotional, stirring, but also funny. And although there will never be any ultimate truths, after a good two hours the audience finds what was so important to Rio throughout his life: authenticity.
