Cuban jazz is now one of the most influential movements in international jazz. Building on Afro-Cuban rhythms, bebop, and modern improvisation, pianists such as Bebo Valdés, Peruchín, Frank Emilio Flynn, Chucho Valdés, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, and Roberto Fonseca—as well as Ernesto Lecuna—developed a distinctive musical language that inspires musicians worldwide and continues to shape the international jazz scene to this day.

The Jonatan Morgenstern Trio carries on this tradition, presenting works by prominent Cuban jazz pianists alongside its own compositions. The concert showcases how Cuban jazz evolved from Havana into a global musical language and continues to unite artists from a wide variety of backgrounds to this day.

Jonatan Morgenstern is a pianist, composer, and bandleader on the Berlin jazz scene. His music blends jazz with Latin American and African influences and is characterized by great sonic openness.

Igor Spallati is an Italian bassist who studied at the Jazz-Institut Berlin and now collaborates with renowned jazz musicians and ensembles throughout Europe.

Diego Piñera is one of the leading Latin jazz drummers in Europe. The German-Uruguayan studied in Havana, won the ECHO Jazz Award in 2017, was honored with the German Jazz Prize in 2023, and uniquely blends Cuban rhythms with modern jazz.
