"Für eine Handvoll Cent"

The HISS band has been performing since 1995. When Mount Etna and Eyjafjallajökull erupted, and when floods of the century and hurricanes caused widespread damage, they lifted our spirits and comforted us. Following Germany’s defeat by Croatia in the quarter-finals of the 1998 World Cup and during the financial crisis, after the Fukushima nuclear disaster and throughout many epidemics, they helped us to keep a sense of perspective, to make sense of events and to cope with them.

Since 1995, HISS have been providing lyrical life advice for every situation, the rhythm for exuberant dance evenings, and the soundtrack to our everyday lives.

And they do so without asking for much: thunderous applause, a bit of wine, a snack and a few coins are reward enough for them. That’s why their new album is called ‘Für eine Handvoll Cent’ (For a Handful of Cents), released in their 30th year and delighting us with more than a handful of new songs.

We hear songs brimming with energy, wit and life experience, exploring the timeless themes of love, addiction, long-distance travel and the weather – all in a globally unique blend of polka and rock ’n’ roll, Tex-Mex and Balkan blues, ska and country, grit and schmaltz.
