To mark its tenth anniversary, the medienkunstverein (mkv) takes a look behind the smooth surfaces of the screens that are part of our everyday lives and asks: What actually happens whilst we swipe, tap and scroll?

Digital infrastructures have long permeated both our social and private lives, yet their underlying processes remain hidden from most users.

Yet they shape our present, from automated communication and algorithmic filters to surveillance and the data economy. The exhibition HIDDEN PROCESSES makes these structures accessible, rendering the invisible visible and thus tangible.

From 15 to 31 October 2026, the association will present a variety of artistic perspectives by mkv members at feldfünf. The works lay bare digital processes, transform them into new forms or challenge them through artistic means – in visualisations, interactive installations and speculative scenarios. The focus is not solely on the technology itself, but on its impact on social interaction, on individual perception and on the relationship between humans and machines.

The exhibition and a two-day festival featuring workshops, panels, talks and performances invite the audience to become part of this discourse themselves. The programme concludes with a screening followed by an anniversary party at STUDIO IIII.
