Some collaborations take shape in the same studio. Duori came together across continents. Since meeting in Bandung in 2017, Italian producer Heith (Daniele Guerrini) and the Indonesian duo Tarawangsawelas (Teguh Permana and Wisnu Ridwana) have been working on a shared musical language.

Ideas traveled back and forth between Europe and Indonesia—stored on recorders, old hard drives, and long-deactivated eSIM cards, transformed by time, distance, and repeated sharing. They describe the result themselves as “5th world music in low data mode”: music that asks less about geographical origin than about the paths along which it travels. The starting point is the soundscapes of West Java. Tarawangsa, suling, kacapi, and small gamelan gongs meet Heith’s delicate electronics, digital processing, and shadowy textures. Yet Duori does not view this encounter as a fusion of two traditions. The pieces remain in flux. They emerge between languages, rituals, and memories—between nighttime Jaipong clubs in Bandung, European tours, and conversations about spirits, friendship, and the journey of sounds.

The resulting music feels both familiar and foreign at the same time. Melodies emerge and then dissolve again; electronic fragments overlay traditional instruments, field recordings, and voices. Here, sound appears less as a finished work and more as a vehicle for connections—between places, people, and the stories they share with one another.

With *Duori*, Heith and Tarawangsawelas will present their album live for the first time in Berlin at the Roter Salon.
