Romantic Realism: Between Blur and Reality

With an opening reception on September 4, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., the galerie für junge künstler- + designerInnen berlin will open an exhibition featuring works by Leipzig-based artist Hartmut Hahn. The exhibition will be on view from September 5 through October 31, 2026.

Hartmut Hahn, a master’s student at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig, explores in his paintings a visual world that lies between reality and poetic alienation. His subjects range from striking depictions of clouds and landscapes to figurative representations and seascapes.

Soft focus and blurring are characteristic of Hahn’s painting. Contours dissolve, and motifs appear as if shrouded in an atmospheric veil. It is precisely this deliberate departure from photographic sharpness that lends the paintings their unique tension and makes the familiar seem both foreign and ethereal. The result is a romantic realism that not only depicts visible reality but also creates space for mood, memory, and imagination.

The exhibition is on view at the galerie für junge künstler- + designerInnen berlin, Grunewaldstraße 15, 10823 Berlin.
