Guest Concert
A return to Berlin after 15 years – the New York Philharmonic’s last guest performance in Berlin took place 15 years ago: as part of its Europe/Spring Tour, the orchestra performed on 19 May 2011 under the baton of its then Principal Conductor, Alan Gilbert. To mark the 100th anniversary of Gustav Mahler’s death, two of his works were on the programme: *Kindertotenlieder* and Symphony No. 5. With the performance of Mahler’s Fifth Symphony in Berlin in 2026, the orchestra will thus be paying special tribute to its last guest performance in the city – this time under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel.
Tania León meets Mahler
Alongside Mahler’s work, the 2026 Berlin programme will feature the commissioned composition *Imágenes mestizas* by Pulitzer Prize winner Tania León. León’s composition will have its world premiere in New York as part of Dudamel’s inauguration as music director of the New York Philharmonic, and will receive its German premiere in Berlin.
