The story of the printing workshop began in 1928 in the heart of Kreuzberg. Otto Schneider and later his son Gerd worked at hand-typesetting workstations and with an "Original Heidelberg Platen Press" that is still functional today, contributing to the vibrant business life of the neighborhood.
The tour demonstrates how so-called job printing materials were produced up until the 1980s – from business cards and letterheads to wedding announcements and price lists. And it's not just about watching: each visitor sets their own name in lead type using a composing stick – just like in Johannes Gutenberg's time in the 15th century.
Prof. iR Dr. Anne König, printer and professor of business administration for the printing industry and publishing houses, provides insights into the history of the workshop and the traditional working methods of hand typesetting and letterpress printing.
