Through the exhibition ‘IM FOKUS. Collected Stories’ with research volunteer Sophia Peix
The Jewish Art School was established by the Institute for New Social Sculpture to provide a safe space for artistic work for Jewish students and students critical of anti-Semitism.
In master classes and workshops in various disciplines, young adults are guided by internationally renowned artists such as David Adika, Yael Ronen, and Ilit Azoulay with the goal of strengthening their artistic practice and providing them with new perspectives on the art and cultural scene.
The museum team is delighted that the artists Eleni Manolopoulos and Regina Potomkina will present their current artistic positions at the Liebermann Villa on Lake Wannsee and reflect on them in a workshop discussion with Julia Herfurth (Institute for New Social Sculpture).
Eleni Manolopoulos is an abstract graphic artist and painter. Since 2019, she has been studying fine art at the Berlin University of the Arts in the class of Prof. Christine Streuli. In addition to studying fine art, Eleni Manolopoulos is pursuing a double degree in Language & Society and Computer Science at the Free University of Berlin.
In her work, she explores different programming paradigms, semantics and semiotics, and concepts such as recursion, repetition, convention, and linearity, which flow into her sign language. She explores how signs acquire meaning and what constitutes this meaning. Linguistic signs in her work play with the concepts of legibility and unambiguousness.
Regina Potomkina is a visual artist from Frankfurt and focuses primarily on oil and acrylic painting. Her motifs explore themes of migration, the associated search for identity, Jewish life realities, and the fates of the people in her immediate environment. She often plays with a combination of objects, symbols, and figures that convey complex messages.
Admission is free; participation requires advance registration.
The discussion is part of the educational project "Max Liebermann and Jewish Life in Berlin." Funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Jewish Life in Germany and the Fight against Antisemitism.
