Guided tour at Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial (GDR State Security Prison)

The 90-minute tour provides visitors with all the information on political arrest and persecution during the Soviet occupation and the GDR.

GDR opponents, people who helped others to flee and political prisoners are all familiar with the former Stasi prison. Today the Berlin Hohenschönhausen Memorial remembers their story. Contemporary witnesses guide you over the site that houses 44 years of political persecution. Large parts of the building have been preserved and give you an authentic impression of the prison conditions between 1946 and 1990.

On the site of the memorial is the last existing GDRW prisoner transport vehicle (GSTW). The so-called Grotewohl-Express, named after former GDR Prime Minister Otto Grotewohl, was used for prisoner-to-prison transfers between different prisons.

Groups up from seven people have to register in advance. Due to the growing demand, groups are requested to register as early as possible, either by phone, letter, or e-mail.
