Conversation with Mareen Baumeister, Sofia Fernández, and Konrad Jünger

Debates on material justice – in which the struggle over the social and economic significance of craftsmanship, materials and artistic and design works plays out – emerged with the early industrialisation of Western Europe and culminated in the Modernist era in the Deutscher Werkbund, thereby having a decisive influence on the German concept of design.

Applied to the present day and with historical reference, they explore the potential of digital craftsmanship in addressing material issues in terms of sustainability and social change.

Three design perspectives at the intersection of materials, sustainability and technology – drawn from the Product Design department and the greenlab at the Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin – have been invited to take part.

The evening will be moderated by Martin Beck, visiting professor of theory and history of design.
