The GENES trio mixes musical traditions from India and the Middle East in a jazz band based on improvisation.
While Indian guitarist Nishad Pandey is influenced by traditional music, Israeli bassist Gidi Farhi draws inspiration from the music of the Levant.
Australian saxophonist Steve Schofield contributes melodies on wind instruments, colored by "classical" jazz and other international influences. Their concept of "improvisation" is based on the tonality of the harmonies and rhythms of their countries of origin, that is, on traditional music, occasionally questioned by the breaks in the rhythmic structure or in the suspension of melodic lines.
The trio has invited percussionist Ria Rother for further rhythmic accentuation. Together they create a music that is able to put the listener in a state of suspension and take them into the world of new Indian-oriental sound worlds.
