Their art navigates the tension between external appearance and inner experience. Both artists approach the theme in different ways. While Jasmin Sermez focuses on emotional states and the interplay of emotion and color, Melina Amandowitz explores her own being through the observation of the external and the adoption of various perspectives.
Both positions are rooted in abstract painting, yet differ significantly in their formal language. Despite the high degree of abstraction, the faces in Melina Amandowitz’s works remain recognizable as such and exist in the liminal space between figuration and dissolution.
Jasmin Sermez, on the other hand, completely departs from the representational in many of her works and relies on the immediate impact of color, texture, and movement as an expression of inner emotional states.
