The Frog Prince – Could the light at the bottom of the well be the moon? And SPLASH! There it goes, right into the well: No, not the child, just his favourite toy. These things happen. But who on earth is this odd frog who’s promising to fetch it back up? What on earth is this bloke thinking, following the girl – just because of a childish white lie – right into her cosy home? Sitting at her table, eating from her little plate and even wanting to sleep with her in her little bed? Hello, are you mad?! The father coldly orders his little daughter: ‘You have to keep the promises you’ve made!’ Not so in our world! In our world, we don’t kiss frogs just because they claim to be enchanted princes! Because if you say ‘A’, you don’t have to do ANYTHING! Our princess knows how to stand her ground in a bigoted adult world, and the frog ends up exactly where he belongs: on the wall: SPLASH!

Parents bring their children into this fairy tale at their own risk.

The Fir Tree

The fairy tale that has probably created the most famous literary monument to our Christmas tree: ‘The Fir Tree’. A fairy tale about a tree that longs for the future and, in doing so, misses out on the present – a story that takes on a whole new meaning in times of climate change. Andersen tells the story of a career that could scarcely be recounted in a more brutal way:

A young person who mistakes the world of appearances for reality, who trades the present for a promise and realises that the promise offers no way back. The applause dies down, the decorations are taken down, the tree is banished to the loft – only when it lies there, worn out and forgotten, does it realise what the forest was.
