Once upon a time, a fisherman and his wife lived in an old hut and couldn’t seem to get anywhere. Well, where else could they go!? “My dear, doesn’t Ilsebill want things to be the way I do?” – Surely something like that couldn’t happen to us. This ancient, eccentric, crude tale of greedy insatiability? It’s got nothing to do with us.

But why, then, does it move us so much? What if it were actually possible: ever further, ever higher, ever bigger! And yet ever more dissatisfied. When is it time to stop dreaming, when suddenly every dream is within reach? ‘Once upon a time…’ becomes ‘here and now’. Aren’t we all a bit like Ilsebill?
The Hare and the Hedgehog
The classic par excellence, our primal Grimm. This is how the Brothers Jacob and Wilhelm taught us to playfully turn their fairy tales into reality: by means of two characters, a stage the size of a beer mat, and a great love of literal detail. The original text is as sacred as the Bible and should be taken as seriously as a Shakespearean epic. What’s written there is to be regarded as strict stage directions, even – and especially – when the hare races the hedgehog for a full 73 laps. Who plays the hedgehog lady? And how, pray tell, does one credibly fall for the same cheap trick 73 times? Well, quite simply: with the help of the audience and with the greatest of pleasure – yes, we promise: Grimm-style on Fairy Tale Hill!
