Berlin Art Week

The current exhibition embrace by Klára Hosnedlová (*1990, Uherské Hradiště, Czech Republic) at Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart interweaves numerous cultural-historical references.

These include architectural styles, films, and novels that shape the cultural memory of the past centuries in today’s Czech Republic.

Among them is František Vláčil’s epic cinematic masterpiece Marketa Lazarová (Czechoslovakia 1967), widely celebrated as the greatest Czech film of all time. Based on Vladislav Vančura’s novel, the film depicts the feud of two medieval robber clans – a poetic parable of nature and culture, love and violence, Christianity and paganism.
