For the 20th time, the Dussmann KulturKaufhaus on Friedrichstraße, in collaboration with the Friends of the State Opera, is hosting the popular ‘Sunday for the State Opera’. This year, the event is dedicated to the Berlin Children’s Opera House, which is directly linked to the State Opera Unter den Linden.

Ein Sonntag für die Staatsoper
For over 15 years, the motto here has been: opera created by children and young people for children and young people – and all under entirely professional working conditions! Under the guidance of artists from the Staatskapelle Berlin and the International Opera Studio, several hundred children discover the world of musical theatre each season. The Kinderopernhaus is active not only in the centre of Berlin but also on the outskirts of the city, providing many young people with their very first – and often profoundly formative – introduction to opera as an art form.
Just how valuable this initiative is is also demonstrated by a very recent honour: in July 2026, founder Regina Lux-Hahn was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for her commitment.
This year’s anniversary Sunday offers a glimpse into this inspiring work: look forward to musical performances, fascinating panel discussions and plenty of fun both on and off stage, together with ensembles from the Staatsoper Unter den Linden.
