Darkroom Contemporary Dance Theatre

The Darkroom Contemporary Dance Theatre, in collaboration with the South African State Theatre, DOCK ART, and the Future Storytelling Lab, presents a new interdisciplinary performance by South African choreographer Louise Coetzer.

“e.ID: A Fugue” takes place in a suspended reality.

This hybrid performance unfolds as a choreographic meditation on identity, mortality, and existence in an increasingly digitized world.

We live between worlds: between the physical and the digital, the inherited and the constructed, the human and something not yet fully defined. This tension between the tangible—flesh, bone, DNA, memory, instinct—and an endlessly reproducible self is reflected in the physical performance, the score, and the live and interactive structures of the work.

Structured as a fugue, e.ID: traces a mode of being that is simultaneously flesh and data, instinct and algorithm—a being that is enclosed, suspended, and caught in a constant cycle within systems it cannot fully comprehend. e.ID: moves through the invisible currents that increasingly shape the world in which we live, and dwells on transience.
