The format aims not only to entertain but also to stimulate critical reflection on social issues.
With “Durch die Wand,” Theater ohne Probe brings a social experiment to the stage: No hero comes to save the world. Theater ohne Probe playfully explores a scenario and its possible outcomes by closely examining the characters’ behavior in the face of major challenges. Who runs away? Who stands their ground and fights? Who starts praying; who capitalizes on the situation? The audience is invited to contribute current topics—from world politics to personal events—which then become the basis for the improvised story.
Political. Epic. Improvised.
Theater ohne Probe views its format as a contemporary adaptation of Brecht’s concept: Instead of passive empathy, the focus is on actively engaging with the subject matter. In doing so, the performers deliberately break the fourth wall, step out of their roles, share their own associations, and encourage critical reflection.
