In collaboration with the student initiative Musica Inaudita, the FLINTA* choir ensemble JASSA presents the concert project 'The Cycle', which explores the artistic representation of the female body and how it is perceived in society.
Taking place in the rehearsal hall of the Berlin University of the Arts, the event aims to establish an active interface between the academic training context and the independent scene. The format also creates a space for socially relevant discussions, ranging from the destigmatisation of the menstrual cycle to questions of shame, and the structural visibility of queer and female authorship in music history.
The programme centres on a new composition for upper voice choir and harp by Chian Lyn Loh. This musical cycle is complemented by cross-stylistic choral works ranging from the Middle Ages to the present day, as well as an electroacoustic sound installation which enhances the performance atmospherically.
Metaphorically interweaving the motifs of the four seasons with themes such as loneliness, solidarity, violence and femicide, the programme creates a multi-layered dialogue between historical repertoire and contemporary performance.
