The Kunstgewerbemuseum at the Kulturforum offers a special artistic treat as part of its "Porcelain and Music" series on September 13, 2025: The ensemble Titans Rising will perform Johann Sebastian Bach's (1685–1750) "Coffee Cantata" in front of original pieces from the porcelain collection.
Bach led the Collegium Musicum for several years at the Zimmermann'sches Kaffeehaus in Leipzig, one of the oldest coffee houses in Europe, and performed many secular cantatas there, including the so-called Coffee Cantata ("Schweigt stille, plaudert nicht," BWV 211).
Curator Dr. Claudia Kanowski will explain the cultural and historical context of the history of coffee and porcelain. Of course, there will also be a small coffee tasting – an event for all the senses!
- Participation is free with a museum ticket.
