Cello recital by Seong-Hyeon Choi, aged 16, on cello, and Mikhail Mordvinov on piano

Seong-Hyeon Choi, born in 2009 in Goyang-si, South Korea, is a young cellist who can already look back on a varied musical education and remarkable success in competitions.

His musical training began at the Korean Academy of Gifted Education, which he attended from 2015 to 2020. From 2022 to 2025, he continued his studies at Yewon Middle School, specialising in the cello. Since March 2025, he has been attending Seoul Arts High School as well as the Blackmore International Music Academy in Berlin, where he studies in Prof. David Geringas’s class.

Seong-Hyeon attracted attention from an early age through his successful participation in prestigious music competitions. In 2021, he won first prize at The Young Artist Music Competition. He also received second prize at the Music Education News Concours, as well as third prize at both the Korean Chamber Orchestra – The 22nd Competition for Music and the Yewon Music Competition. In 2023, his continued artistic development was recognised with 4th prize at The Journal of Music’s 37th Concours. He also gave a recital at the Shinhan Live Classic Festival.

In 2024, Seong-Hyeon Choi achieved further significant competition successes. He was awarded third prize at the 8th Dong-A Junior Music Competition, as well as at the 26th Strad Competition of Korea.

Mikhail Mordvinov, born in Moscow, is regarded as one of the most distinguished Russian pianists of his generation. Following numerous successes at international competitions, he now performs worldwide as a soloist, chamber musician and song accompanist.
