Written shortly after the end of the First World War, Robert Wiene's expressionist masterpiece seems like the fever dream of an era...into which we are re-entering.
Dr. Caligari exhibits a somnambulistic medium named Cesare at the fair and makes him clairvoyant. Two friends attend the performance together. One of them is murdered the following night, after Cesare had previously prophesied his death. Caligari turns out to be a madman who uses Cesare as an instrument of murder. Made shortly after the end of World War I, Robert Wiene's expressionist masterpiece seems like the fever dream of an era.
