The youth version
Anja is 15 when the Wall comes down in 1989. Having grown up in the GDR, she experiences the upheaval first-hand. She becomes a punk, falls in love with her first girlfriend and experiences the right-wing violence of the so-called ‘baseball bat years’.
The Bandentheater combines biographical theatre, acrobatics on the Chinese pole, live music and video to create a vibrant production about the fall of the Wall, freedom, queerness, democracy and coming of age in times of social upheaval.
Particularly in light of today’s shift to the right, the play invites young people to contribute their own questions and perspectives.
Following the performance, there will be a moderated audience discussion with Dirk Kalinowski, the singer of the GDR punk band Zerfall, on youth culture and punk in the GDR, as well as the period of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the post-reunification era.
