Bernd Lafrenz - King Richard III

He detests dancing and festivities; he prefers fierce war to cheerful peace. Deprived of physical charms by nature, he resolves to become an arch-scoundrel and villain and to eliminate anyone who stands in his way.

By any means necessary, he intends to seize the throne, which is still occupied by his brother, King Edward IV.

Through clever intrigues, he pits King Edward against his brother George, who is subsequently taken to the Tower, where he meets his untimely end.

His next scheme follows:

Richard uses flattering words to ask for Princess Anne’s hand in marriage; she initially rejects him in anger, seeing him as the murderer of her husband and father, but eventually allows herself to be won over by his hypocritical, beguiling words.

When his ailing brother, King Edward, also dies, nothing seems to stand in the way of his path to the throne. But several obstacles and surprises still await Richard.

A web of intrigue centered on power and the lust for power begins, which—as so often in human history—ends with the words: “The king is dead; long live the king!”
