Martha Argerich’s performances with the Berlin Philharmonic are always a special occasion. This time, you’ll experience her in Sergei Prokofiev’s lively, high-energy Piano Concerto No. 3.
The concert opens with Claude Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, which transports the audience to a sensual dream world with its shimmering, impressionistic sounds. Chicks in eggshells, the hut of the witch Baba Yaga, or the magnificent gate of Kiev—Modest Mussorgsky has impressively set these and other visual motifs to music in his cycle Pictures at an Exhibition. In Maurice Ravel’s orchestration, the cycle became one of the most popular orchestral works.
Lahav Shani conducts.
