Two brave children who use their own cleverness to escape from the clutches of a witch—Engelbert Humperdinck turned the popular fairy tale *Hansel and Gretel* into an opera that continues to enchant audiences of all ages to this day.

What makes it unique is above all the blend of folk-song-like melodies and a multifaceted orchestral sound inspired by Richard Wagner. The colorful staged performance is conducted by Kirill Petrenko. Also featured: the Vokalhelden choir. This ensemble stems from the Berlin Philharmonic’s education program, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this season.
