A premiere of a special kind: Gustavo Dudamel, a long-time artistic partner of the Berlin Philharmonic, takes the podium to conduct Bruckner for the first time—and has chosen the Fourth Symphony, the “Romantic,” for the occasion.
According to Bruckner himself, while composing, he envisioned the morning atmosphere in a medieval town, knights on their horses, and the rustling of the forest. Blaring hunting horns are also an essential part of this romantic soundscape.
Before that, you’ll experience Mitsuko Uchida, a grande dame of the piano, as soloist in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2: a work full of charm and youthful vigor.
