The Benin Bronzes, looted by the British in 1897, have become a global symbol for the hundreds of thousands of cultural objects from Africa that European colonial powers illegally appropriated and displayed in museums. In June 2021, the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation decided to restitute the bronzes to Nigeria.
In the guided tour, the history(s) of art from Benin will be addressed from multiple perspectives. In addition, the question of what will happen after the restitution will be explored. The offer was developed together with mediators from the National Museum Benin City.
