In the DFB U19 Youth League, Bundesliga clubs and ambitious amateur teams compete together in a single division from the outset. After the first half of the season, the strongest teams – including up to eleven representatives from the second-highest leagues – qualify directly for the main round.

Clubs without their own youth academy are rewarded for strong preliminary round performances and given the opportunity to prove themselves at a higher level. The goal is to provide more targeted support for talent and further develop creativity, enjoyment of the game, and overall performance.
Starting in the 2026 season, the DFB Youth Cup for the U19 age group will also be expanded to 64 teams – mirroring the men's cup competition.
