With live music, singing and lively dialogue, the ensemble of the theaterforum kreuzberg recounts the life and tribulations of a miser.

Euclio, a townsperson, is keen to appear as a poor man, even though he is hoarding a pot full of gold. He scrimps wherever he can. He doesn’t care that his neighbours make fun of him. He rarely dares to leave the house because he is afraid his treasure might be stolen. He suspects his housekeeper of letting on that he is actually a rich man.

His daughter, too, suffers from her father’s stinginess and has shut herself away in her room. But there is another reason for this: at a party, she was seduced and overpowered by an unknown young man, with consequences. Only the housekeeper knows that the daughter is expecting a child.

Megadorus, the wealthy neighbour, has set his sights on the daughter. He convinces Euclio that it would be best for everyone if he were to marry her. She could then lead a comfortable life, and Euclio would be spared the worry of marrying off a poor girl. They agree to celebrate the wedding that very same evening.

Euclio, however, remains suspicious and is constantly on the lookout for a safe hiding place for his treasure. A servant, who has been watching everything, manages to steal the pot of gold. When Euclio discovers the loss of his treasure, he is devastated. Life no longer holds any meaning for him. Will he be able to free himself from this existential crisis?
